Nexus GB has been working with portable memory products in the UK and Ireland for over 20 years. We supply the complete range of rugged Keys and Tokens manufactured by Datakey Electronics, providing products that deliver a cost-effective and reliable way of moving electronic information in harsh environments where conventional devices wouldn’t survive.
Built to look and feel like a conventional key, the rugged, low cost devices are unobtrusive and available in Microwire, I²C™ or SPI Interfaces. Easy to use and utilised in a myriad of applications ranging from fuel management and cashless vending to secure communications.
There are over 3 million memory keys and tokens in daily use in the UK and Ireland and these products are used world-wide in hundreds of military and commercial applications, providing a cost-effective and reliable way of storing and transporting electronic information where conventional methods would not survive.
Due to the harshness of many of the applications, the keys and tokens are manufactured to stand up to the toughest environments including water, heat, cold, dust, dirt, magnetic fields and static electricity. Conditions you would never think of putting a memory card, smart card or even a disc into. Unlike other cards and carriers that can easily fail, the key’s body protects the embedded memory chip from physical damage and harsh environmental influences. They can be sterilised, dropped in the mud, washed, exposed to electromagnetic fields or chemicals—and they’ll still work.
Product applications are unlimited and we also offer custom design services to adapt the products to their customers’ applications, making development easier and ensuring a speedy turnaround. Through the availability of Serial Development Kits which utilise either RS-232 or USB interface, the concept idea can be tested in a matter of days.
The Serial Development Kit includes two Keyceptacles® or Receptacles, PC demo software with source code, programmers reference manual, a reader/writer, and customer specified keys or tokens.
For added security , Datakey Electronics now produce a new IIK/IIT Series of unique identifier memory keys or tokens with a standard I2C™ interface. The IIK Key’s EEPROM has a unique 48-bit register that cannot be changed by the user. This register can be used to eliminate any possibility that the key could be copied.
John Barrett, Managing Director of Nexus (G.B.) Ltd and UK Distributor for Datakey products comments, “Customers can use the unique serial number to prevent duplication of keys by storing a list of the serial numbers before dispatching the keys or by using the key’s serial number as a unique “seed” for encrypting data onto the key.
“The complete catalogue of fully-engineered standard memory keys, tokens and support peripherals can help solve endless design challenges and reduce time-to-market. Coupled with Datakey Electronic’s 30 of expertise in rugged, secure and reliable electronics and our superior service we should be the first port of call for any OEM looking for a portable memory solution.”
